The three-yearly employee survey produced scores, but little movement. Teams barely recognised themselves in it, and no solutions came out of it. UMCG wanted a format that actually activates people.
The approach
Anonymous dialogue sessions that teams could hold at a time that suited them, on laptop or tablet. Nine fixed questions kept the results comparable from year to year, while the open round left room for the story behind the numbers.
Over three years, 150 teams took part, from medical staff to the kitchen, together producing 23,000 messages.
The outcome
Every team received its own report within a week, with solutions it had proposed itself. At sector level, consolidated reports showed how the organisation was developing compared with the baseline measurement.
Management ended up with both figures and concrete, prioritised improvement points, straight from the shop floor.
